After the six-part series LLL just completed on the blast door map, I considered doing something similar with the less obvious but equally intriguing wall mural for the Swan hatch's library. But as it turns out, someone in Iowa has already done a fantastic job of this, so I'll direct you to the site at the link above.
Some highlights that jump out:
1. The mural apparently changed over time. It could have been modified by John, Jack, and the other button-pushers. Or it could have changed itself. In any case, the precise meaning of the changes is hard to decipher.
2. Stylistically, it is very similar to the abstract artwork created by Claire's ex/ Aaron's father, the artist. The simple explanation is that the Powers that Be hired only one background artist. The more interesting explanation, and more in keeping with Lost, is that Aaron's dad has had some greater connection to the island after leaving Claire (or before)...
3. Symbols found on the mural include boats with people falling off (Sun?), recurrences of "108", fish biscuits, separate islands with water in between, houses (a-la Othersville from this season's opening sequence), a one-eyed man (Mr. eyepatch?), a plane crash, an arrow at the precise heading along which Michael left the island, references to Walt, etc.
So look at this exceptionally well-done website, and think about the content. We're only two weeks away from episode 307 ("Not in Portland"). If it seems odd that so many Lost plot points would appear on this mural before they took place, bear in mind that whatever forces are at play on the island that gave Desmond his new clairvoyance may have done so with someone else in the past...
